Our History: A Brief History of KLINGER Bartsch GmbH
Fascination for carbon, graphite and their many-faceted applications.
Founded 1973 by Peter Bartsch
Asbestos-free seals were considered to be rare and innovative back in 1973, when Peter Bartsch founded his engineering office in Wallenhorst, near Osnabrück, Germany, selling pumps and carbon parts. A logical step for the engineer to take was to increase the use of carbon and graphite, especially since at that time he was also distributing carbon bushings as bearings and graphite foils as contact platelets for metallisation. This is what instilled in him an appreciation for the special properties of these fascinating materials.
Using graphite in sealing technology – for corrugated graphite tape and pure graphite rings – resulted in strong turnover growth and led to the company name change to Peter Bartsch GmbH & Co. KG.
Two core segments
This business sector soon grew to a size that suggested splitting the company into two core segments. And so it happened that in 1980 Bartsch Kohle / Graphitprodukte GmbH & Co. KG and Bartsch Pumpen GmbH & Co. KG were established.
Further business growth
Since then the line of products has been systematically developed further in close cooperation with customers from trade and industry. SUTOS GmbH, a mechanical engineering company in Wallenhorst, was integrated into Bartsch GmbH & Co. KG in 1985. The company’s know-how in an important business sector increased significantly with the development of a large number of tools for producing pure graphite rings and individual parts for slip-ring seals:
Today, with more than 18,500 tools, Bartsch GmbH more than meets all customer demands – in the shortest possible time.
As the medium-sized company expanded, construction of a new building became necessary. 1995 marked the move into Techno-Point, where sealing technology, pump technology and mechanical engineering are united under one roof.
Certificates
All companies at the Techno-Point facility have been certified under ISO 9001 ff since 1996. All of them achieved certification by TÜV Nord at the first go. Bartsch views quality management requirements as a positive challenge that helps the company pursue continuous further development and improve its performance.
Expanding the scope of the business to include water-jet cutting called for construction of an additional building in 1998 and a partial move took place into a building on the Lise-Meitner Strasse, opposite main headquarters. In 2000 Peter Bartsch sold Bartsch Kohle / Graphitprodukte GmbH & Co. KG, Interstanz GmbH & Co. KG and SUTOS GmbH & Co. KG to KLINGER GmbH, and the three separate companies merged to form Bartsch GmbH.
Even after Peter Bartsch left the company on 31 December 2001 the corporate policy stayed firmly on course, thanks to its clear focus on quality and sustainability. We continue to supply only seal manufacturers and industrial distributors.
Clear focus on quality and sustainability
In 2003 Bartsch GmbH achieved certification under the currently valid standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 by TÜV Rheinland, again at the first go. In our opinion, this standard reflects the interaction of all workflows in the company even more impressively than its predecessor.
Enthusiasm for the wide variety of possible applications of carbon and graphite represents a basic constant in Bartsch’s development. The unique properties of these materials enable a wide range of uses in sealing technology. We are also successful in spreading our enthusiasm for our products to other branches of industry. Our technically oriented customers’ specifications are becoming ever more complex. This makes the high quality of our products all the more crucial; they are manufactured strictly in accordance with national and international legal requirements and standards.
